To term limits Charter change
On tonight’s City Council Agenda is a Councilwoman
Connie Ladenburg sponsored resolution asking
the voters of Tacoma to change the City Charter
in order to eliminate mayoral and council
term limits. If voted for by the citizens
in November the change would allow incumbents
to run and if constantly reelected serve
for life.
Last Friday The New Takhoman asked their
readers, “Should the Tacoma city Charter
be amended to eliminate term limits for the
mayor and city council members?”
Not one of the 45 respondents are in favor
of the change.
A sampling of the responses follows.
Sounds so close to what happen during the
(County) Charter Review a couple of years
ago. It is of great interest that
the name Ladenburg would be the one bring
up this issue. This County and the cities
within don't seem to be able to function unless
only a very few people control the government
offices with no turn over to allow other
a chance.

Leave it to a notorious Ladenburg mafia to
request no term limits. John boy mysteriously
pushed Connie Ladenburg on the counsel
in the first place, even though her
opponent's votes far exceeded hers. I am
sick of the Ladenburg's free ride, at
taxpayer expense, and their arrogant refusal
to comply with all matter of law. It
is past time for the
Ladenburg’s to retire into oblivion,
so that the public may once again enjoy their
public employees who carry great
honor and integrity.
The Ladenburg underworld requires unrestrained
and uncontrollable power, in an unsuccessful
attempt to conceal their egregious failure
to comply with all matter of law.

Hmm, wonder if this has anything to do with
her comment at JMAC; she wanted the Heidelberg
Sports Complex done before her term was over????!!!

We just need a dictator!

Ladenburg says" The issues facing them
are more complex and require
a longer learning
curve"
Give me a break! Any WASL student can
learn Roberts Rules or Order long before
the council. If you have a longer learning
curve then you should not have been elected.

Last year the City Council voted for medical
benefits for themselves. Now they would like
the opportunity to hold their positions on
the council permanently. However, they aren't
willing to give up their 'day' jobs and devote
their energies solely to governing the city
by becoming a full time council. For every
decision they make they hide behind the skirts
of the city manager, Eric Anderson. I would
only support the elimination of term limits
if we changed the form of government to eliminate
the position of city manager and have the
mayor and council full time and accountable
to the citizenry.

And then...s/he who would be king...

I respond with a big NO to both questions.
Because:
--- We need to get
the old line of failing decision makers out
before they do more damage.
--- Anyone staying in a council
position that long (without ownership, as
in a business) is either crooked or has psychological
problems.

Why don't we just get it over with ...and
crown John & Connie King and Queen of
Tacoma for life...then we could let Julie
be Princess...Rick Prince...Mike Court Minister...Billy
Bumble Court Jester...and Jake could run
the State Reading Program.

The names Ladenburg, Sonntag, Sutherland,
Ebersole, and McGavick have resonated through
Tacoma seemingly forever. These people
are those who were on the student council
back in the 60's and 70's and instead of
earning an honest living at a real job, decided
to dedicate their lives to passing laws for
other people.
If Miz Ladenburg is such a slow learner that
it takes 10 years to get the job down pat
perhaps it would be better if she just
crawled off and died. I guess working
for a living is out of the question.
We’ve certainly had our share of long term
losers. Harold and whatever her name was
Moss, Ebersole (by the way, how much is he
getting in his lobbyist position?) and lest
we forget, that guy on the county council
who was addicted to $10 whores.
These people will never leave.

Negative on changing the charter!
If anything needs changing it should be that
no spouse or significant other of an elected
official can serve on the city or county
councils. This pillow talk influence
is not required!!! And, it is not in
the best interest of the citizens of the
City of Tacoma to change the 10-year term
limits.
A side note--Ladenburg finds it more important
to cancel scheduled meetings to fit her schedule. On
who's dime did she travel to San Diego???

This is a joke on all residents. So NOW their
concerned that they couldn't do the jobs
they were responsible for? Why, because
some were in San Diego, etc. instead
of attending Council meetings? After meeting
their term limit, NOW some council has seen
the light and excuses their failings to lack
of time? What do they need... an era all
their own to actually produce?
The only reason this is being "raised"
now is as usual, fancy legal wording would
enable the dead wood to keep their seats
for longer. If this did not permit current
council to run again, want to bet this issue
never would have come up?
I suggest the council forget about it this
year to avoid looking like
the power hungry
gang some are. Since when
have citizens really
had a voice here lately?
Get rid of the reigning
maxed out yoyo's who couldn't
do the job
knowing their term limits
gave them clear
timelines. Any other business
would have
fired an employee who promised
so much and
produced so little and
then claimed they
didn't have enough time.
Maybe with the next elected new group we
can consider limit changes,
but until then
citizens need to demand
the counsel quit
wasting citizen funds and tax
paid time
in this obvious exercise
in self promotion.
Funny- you don't have enough
time to do the
job you were hired for
but sure can find
time to expand your benefits.
Bye bye and good riddance!
Lisa Jones
We can't afford to allow these people to
keep going, they are spending us deeper and
deeper into the hole.
I can't really see anything that comes to
mind, that benefited the
taxpayer. To keep
them in office is pure
stupidity. We can's
afford them. Don't vote
incumbent. I’m tired
of seeing the same sad
faces in Tacoma politics.
It's run more like a banana republic than
anything else.
Steve Muller
No, no, a thousand times no. Do not repeal
term limits for city council and mayor.
Some of them act like they think they are
royalty now. It could only get worse.
Patty Crook
Maybe if the learning curve is too steep
the current council members should find something
more commensurate with their abilities to
spend their time on. Like I heard McDonalds
is hiring.
